3 disgusting dishes to try this Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

At BeeZee Families, we aim to make healthy eating fun ALL year round, but when it comes to Halloween we get creepily creative!

This Halloween, you can gorge on gruesome green pancakes for breakfast, spooky spaghetti for dinner and trick or treat yourself to a blood filled chocolate cup.

Gruesome Green Pancakes

Gruesome Green Pancakes

Ingredients: 

  • banana
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp baking powder  
  • 4 tbsp porridge oats  
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon  
  • Cooking oil spray  
  • Handful of spinach  

Optional healthy toppings: 

  • Fruit – banana and blueberries for eyes, strawberries for a tongue, get creative! 
  • Nuts – flaked almonds, sunflower seeds, chopped hazlenuts 
  • Sauce – honey, maple syrup, Greek yoghurt 

Method: 

  1. Blitz the banana,eggs, baking powder, oats, cinnamon and spinach together in a food processor
  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and spray with some spray oil. 
  3. Spoon some pancake mix into the pan, cook for 1-2 minutes on each side (don’t forget to flip!), then tip onto a plate. 
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining batter. 
  5. Add the toppings and get creative with your spooky designs of your choice and enjoy 
Spooky Spaghetti with eyeballs

Spooky Spaghetti with eyeballs

Make any pasta dish creepy this Halloween by adding some eyeballs!  

You will need:

  • Cherry tomatoes 
  • Mozzarella  
  • Olives  

 

  1. Chop the cherry tomatoes into halves, and scoop out the inside  
  2. Find either small balls of mozzarella or chop up a large mozzarella so that it fits inside the cherry tomato half  
  3. Slice pitted olives, and place on top of the mozzarellaAnd there you have it!

Blood filled chocolate cups

Ingredients

  • 1 large bar of dark chocolate 
  • 1 punnet of raspberries  

 Method

  1. Melt the chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan of boiling water  
  2. Divide half of the melted chocolate up into 6 small cupcake holders  
  3. Let the chocolate set in the fridge for 5 minutes 
  4. Meanwhile, heat the raspberries in a pan over a medium heat until they form a jam-like consistency  
  5. When the chocolate is set, add the raspberry mix onto the top of it, and let sit in the fridge for a further 5 minutes 
  6. When the raspberry filling is sem-set, add the remainder of the melted chocolate onto the top. 
  7. Put the cups into the freezer to set  
  8. Enjoy…. if you’re a vampire
