This month we’re getting out and about in our BeeZee areas to bring you our favourite places to get stepping. If you live in Hertfordshire, you’re spoiled for choice for beautiful and interesting places to explore throughout National Walking Month (and beyond…!).
Norton Common, Letchworth Garden City – A beautiful Common and park, perfect for walks and picnics. Within easy walking distance of the town centre and railway station, Norton Common offers 63 acres of unspoilt grass and woodland, tennis courts, bowling green and outdoor pool. A good day out for the whole family
Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage – 120 acres of parkland in the heart of Stevenage, complete with a big lake, kids play area and mini paddling pools.
Hitchin Lavender Fields – Breathtakingly beautiful fields of purple lavender stretching out as far as the eye can see. Sunflowers and wild flowers are also in abundance. For the kids, there’s a model tractor and a fortress play area.
The Garden City Greenway, Letchworth – The Greenway is a circular route that surrounds the Garden City estate. With 13.6 miles (21.8 km) of beautiful countryside, the Garden City Greenway provides a perfect setting for a range of outdoor activities. A variety of routes, open spaces and points of interest makes the Greenway an ideal retreat for people of all ages.
Tring Reservoirs in Hertfordshire – There are three circular walks around Tring reservoirs which are waymarked to help you enjoy your walk to the full. The reservoirs are classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and are a great place for wildlife lovers to spot water birds and other winter wildlife.
Redbournebury Watermill and Bakery, St Albans – Redbournbury Watermill is a working mill producing a range of stoneground organic flours principally from locally grown grains, situated on the River Ver. The mill is situated in idyllic rural surroundings with water meadows to the north and south. There are a number of signed walks around the mill with plenty of opportunities to see wildlife along the river Ver including: kingfishers, herons, water voles, little egret and red kites.
Cassiobury Park, Watford – recently voted one of the top 10 parks in the UK, Cassiobury Park has 190 acres of open grass and woodland with loads of attractions to keep the kids (and grown ups!) happy, including state of the art paddling pools, a miniature railway, 2 outdoor gyms, sports pitches and playgrounds.
