Debbie lives in Flitwick, Bedfordshire and is 33 weeks pregnant. At the 10 week check up with her midwife they discussed her age (38 at the time) and high BMI. The midwife suggested a free programme that was being delivered locally by Beezee Bodies, through Central Bedforshire Council, that helped ladies with diet, nutrition and exercise throughout their pregnancy.
Although Debbie was a bit sceptical about how much she would benefit to start with, she thought she would give the Beezee Bumps programme a go.
How BZ Bumps is helping Debbie throughout her pregnancy
Debbie says: “The programme was so helpful. We did exercise that was actually fun, got loads of advice on the best diet and nutrition throughout pregnancy, discussed eating habits and met other mums to be.
“Although I had a high BMI, I have actually lost my appetite throughout this pregnancy and also suffered with low iron levels. The programme leader gave me specific advice on how to get enough nutrients even though I wasn’t eating much and how to raise my iron levels. Little tips such as what to look for on food labels were invaluable and are now second nature to me. As a result, I haven’t gained any weight through the pregnancy and my baby is growing really well.
“The group was lots of fun and it was great to meet other mums to be too. We have kept in touch with a What’s App group and plan to meet up regularly.
“Anybody would be mad not to take up this free service, I have learned so much and the extra support throughout my pregnancy has been fantastic. No woman has to feel they can’t go to something like this because of how they think they look. No one is ever judged.”
Debbie’s partner has also signed up for the Beezee Bodies Gutless programme for men in January.
